Parents and Children Learning Together at the Mars Rover Training Program

The Mars Rover Training Program organized by iMars Organization at Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium was much more than a science workshop—it became a wonderful example of families learning and growing together. While the program was designed to introduce children to the exciting world of Mars exploration and rover technology, one of the most inspiring aspects of the event was the active participation of parents alongside their children.ph here

Held in the spacious open area of the planetarium, the workshop created an energetic and collaborative atmosphere where parents and children sat together, assembled rover modules, connected parts, tested wheel movements, and understood the fundamentals of rover design. Instead of simply watching from the sidelines, parents became active participants—asking questions, helping with assembly, and sharing the excitement of discovery.

This hands-on involvement made the experience richer for the children. Seeing their parents engage with science and engineering boosted their confidence and made learning more enjoyable. It turned the workshop into a shared mission rather than an individual activity. Children felt supported, motivated, and inspired, while parents gained a first hand understanding of how practical STEM education can shape young minds.

The program also highlighted an important message: science education becomes stronger when families are involved. Parents not only encouraged their children but also discovered the joy of learning new concepts themselves. Many expressed excitement about understanding how Mars rovers function and how such technologies are connected to real-world space missions.

Under the guidance of the iMars team and the leadership of the Space Technology Education program, the event successfully blended education with family participation. It showed that innovation begins at home, and when parents and children explore together, the learning becomes deeper and more meaningful.

The Mars Rover Training Program was therefore not just about building rover models—it was about building curiosity, confidence, and a shared dream of reaching for the stars. It reminded everyone present that the journey to Mars can begin with something as simple and powerful as a parent learning beside their child.
